About Me

I am a PhD student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and a recently returned Peace Corps Timor-Leste volunteer.

Current Research Focus

My research interests center on the documentation of the languages of Timor-Leste, with a primary focus on the Kairui-Midiki language [ISO 639-1: krd]. Kairui-Midiki is spoken in the Venilale Administrative Post, where I lived and worked for two years during my Peace Corps service.

I am particularly interested in the historical dynamics in the region. Specifically, I am investigating the Kawaimina languages' historical development and classification within the Timor-Babar branch. Additionally, the long-term contact between Kairui-Midiki — an Austronesian language — and the non-Austronesian (Papuan) languages spoken in Venilale and eastern Timor is of interest.
